Dr. Koen De Smet is an orthopaedic and trauma surgeon. He specialises in the hip resurfacing method en revision surgery. He’s also the head of Anca Medical Centre in Sint-Martens-Latem, Belgium.
Having performed over 5500 hip resurfacing surgeries, dr. De Smet is one of the world’s best and most experienced hip surgeons. He received many awards for his studies, and invented multiple hip prosthesis products.

Dr. Geert De Loore is an Orthopaedic Surgeon since 1995 and worked as a specialist in the hip and spine surgery department at the AZ Damiaan Hospital in Ostend, Belgium. In 2017 he started a collaboration with Dr. De Smet in the ANCA Clinic where he focuses exclusively on expert hip surgery. In 2020 Dr. Van Quickenborne joined the association. He operates in the Az Jan Palfijn Hospital in Ghent and Az Zeno Hospital in Knokke, Belgium.
Since 2009, Dr. De Loore uses the strictly anterior approach for all his total hip prosthesis, where no muscle or tendon has to be detached or cut to fit the prosthesis. For this muscle-sparing technique, he is an international reference surgeon and has the largest experience in Belgium. On a regularly basis he receives national and international surgeons to teach this technique and is also an instructor at international workshops. The final function of his patients is better and the revalidation is without restrictions and a lot quicker compared to his experience with the other approaches.
Hip Resurfacing is also part of his experience. He performs this bone sparing technique, which is mostly used in young and active patients since 2001. In the ANCA Clinic he implants over 250 resurfacings every year.

Dr. Damien Van Quickenborne is an orthopaedic hip surgeon at the ANCA Clinic in Ghent, Belgium, with a particular focus on hip resurfacing and total hip replacement.
He obtained his medical degree at the University of Brussels in 2014 and subsequently specialised in orthopaedic surgery at Ghent University. He joined the ANCA team of Dr. Koen De Smet, internationally recognised for their extensive experience in hip resurfacing surgery.
Dr. Van Quickenborne specialises in the treatment of hip disorders in young and active patients, with particular expertise in hip resurfacing surgery. His practice includes both metal-on-metal hip resurfacing and ceramic-on-ceramic hip resurfacing, as well as total hip arthroplasty.
In 2025, Dr. Van Quickenborne performed the first CE-marked ceramic-on-ceramic hip resurfacing with the ReCerf® system in the Benelux, introducing this new generation of hip resurfacing technology to Belgium.
He performs hip surgery in Ghent and at AZ Zeno in Knokke, and sees Belgian and international patients through the ANCA Clinic in Sint-Martens-Latem.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr. Van Quickenborne is active in academic research at Ghent University, where he is completing a PhD focused on gluteal tendon repair. He has authored and co-authored scientific publications in peer-reviewed international journals and combines his clinical practice with ongoing research into hip surgery and the treatment of disorders affecting the hip.
